Ellen van Dijk came to Friesland especially to wear her rainbow jersey, which was captured in Leuven last year, and to show off her rainbow-painted time trial bike during competitions: “I would also have liked to run the Strade Bianche on Saturday, which is also a race where I normally do well. But there are so few time trials and so I don’t miss the opportunity to show that I was the strongest in the World Cup last year. Wearing the world champion jersey and starting with the special bike with the colors of the rainbow gives encouragement”, said the champion

Jess Roberts
Jessica Roberts just before starting her performance at the Bloeizone Fryslân Tour.

Van Dijk thought his time would not be enough for victory: “Normally a short time trial is more reserved for Reusser. Then I was wrong about the small difference with Riejanne, who just did a very strong time trial. This victory gives me great satisfaction, but the difference with Riejanne is very small so we can still go to work…”, declared the winner after the first day racing.

The italian sprinter of the team managed by Wim Stroetinga, Liv Racing Xstra, got the first victory of the season winning at the last day of the dutch race. The track expert Barbieri beat another pistard, Martina Fidanza and Elodie Le Bail over the finish line, while Van Dijk assured her 5th overall victory in this race, formerly called Healthy Aging Tour, declaring that “my jersey is no longer in danger but it’s still been stressful, I was glad I crossed the line. Mentally it is very difficult to always drive from the front, leaving no gaps. In the end it worked and I’m happy with that“.

Mischa Bredewold
Mischa Bredewold did the breakaway of the day.

Rachele Barbieri explained that the day before “the preparation for the sprint didn’t go well, we were going too far. But today we did it better and I´mm very happy with this victory, wich gives confidence to the team and myself for the next few weeks”.

Headings all over the world by some of the presents to the winners… “Sex sells“.

The main sponsor of the race, Easy Toys, will be really happy because the news about their products (with all kind of opinions about it) given as presents to the winners were published all around the world media and social networks. Van Dijk said that “I’ve won some big races, but never before has a post of mine drawn so much attention. So it seems that is true what they say: ‘Sex sells‘”.
